hi,

I'm currently working on a 60 hp johnson (bj60elesm) and the prop needs to be changed as the current one is damaged. It is currently running an aluminium 13 3/4 x 15 . the boat the engine will be used on will be a 13ft speedboat, which will only have usually 1-2 people plus 15 litres of fuel starting off and then the usual (batttery, 10 kg anchor, etc) would this be the correct prop to re insatall?

Please read the stickies at the top of the page.We need a lot more info to make any kind of accurate prop decision. The best approach is to get your prop repaired and get some base line tests to us.rpm and speed by gps if possible. We need to know the year of the motor, weight of the boat, deep V all the way to the transom? or flat bottom etc. You will very likely need more pitch on a 13 footer probably a 19 or 21.Then there is the aluminum or stainless decision.

Yikes !! i thought i was doing good with the info i had.... firstly prop has chunks missing from one blade and was told it needed replacing. No rev counter on the boat , can't give speed as i don't want to damge the engine by trying it out with damaged prop.
Weight of the boat is a mystery to me transom plate is gone due to earlier works by previous owner. The V runs all the way to the transom and aluminum would suffice.

Man a lot of stuff to consider here.... maybe just handier to replace current prop and later down the road try a bigger pitch.

Tachs like the tinytach are about $50 and easy to install.Did a prop shop say replace the prop?
A prop shop can repair some pretty nasty props. If they can fix it they may be able to increase the pitch to a 17 as well.Still probably not enough. If I had to gamble on a prop I would say a 19 for that little boat. You could get it repitched up to 2" in either direction but for the health of your motor and to know which way to go you really need a tach. The Solas props are pretty predictable
and reasonable.
