Hi all, New to board and boating. Just baught a used boat (inboard/outboard) and the marina I baught it from put a new prop on it with the purchase. The problem im having (if its actually a problem) is when I rotate the prop by hand, part of the way through its rotation it seems to make a metal on metal scrapping noise, ever so slightly, with a metalic ringing. Is this normal? What could be wrong? I dont know if it did that before they put the new prop on.

Maybe remove prop to make sure the thrust washer is in front of prop and not behind it or left off completely when they were working on it. If thrust washer is not in front of prop then prop may rub on aluminum foot when it turns. Check it out and good luck!

I would completely remove the prop and first clean the prop shaft, then check it to make sure it is true to rotation and there is no wobble. If you see a slight wobble in the shaft, then it is bent and you will wear out your lower unit gears. If it is true to rotation, make sure you have the proper prop washer for the prop you are using. Grease the entire shaft, reinstall the washer, prop, spacer, bolt. If you have a aluminum prop, you might see a slight wobble due to the way the are manufactured. You should not see any wobble with SS. Prop should not rub inner lower unit foot housing at all. Hope this helps.
