ok next question.this is for a 1959 50 hp johnson super sea horse(model#v4sl-11 b,serial#1971542)with a michigan prop(no idea on #'s all the thing says is 104 cupped).all this is on a 15 foot cobia.my questions are:1)what is the pitch and other important #'s?and #2)how far below the bottom of the boat should the prop be.i ask the second question because i swapped the lower end off a 75 hp motor.it is approx.4 inches lower because of an extension for long shaft

Normally the cavitation plate should be even with the bottom of the hull. If it handles OK I would run it as is even if it looks goofy. I run a long shaft 9.9 on a 13'. It looks dumber than dumb but seems to run fine.

Actually, it's 5" lower and all that excess leg in the water really effects the performance of the boat. The more of it out of the water, the better the boat runs. As was pointed out, the cav plate should be even or maybe a few inches above the bottom of the boat.

c/6

Hooty

Hi hooty glad you have a sense of humour I cant see the picture but i can guess what it was :D :D .A friend bought a compressor with a mitsubishi motor on it he couldnt get it to run & asked me to fix it.The plug thread had been stripped & helicoiled badly they had tried to seal it with thread tape!!! I cleaned it up & glued it in with....Devcon(we cant get JB weld down here)Same stuff tho that engine is still purring....
