I have a mercrusier 1990 alpha 1 drive. The prop that i have is evidently for an older model unit as it is hitting the rear of unit when installed. Would like to try and use but i need some sort of bigger shaft prop washer to keep it from making contact with housing. Do i need a washer on both sides? Is there a conversion to be able to use a older prop on a 1990 alpha 1? Thanks

Re: prop mod

You need a larger thrust washer on the shaft in front of the prop. Prop should have come with the right size. What drive unit was it on before you got it?

Re: prop mod

Nope---only use one washer. It should fit right inside the outer rim of the prop hub. Is the hub spun on the prop? Are you sure it works? You might have to take it to a prop shop for a look.
