I just tried my new Yamaha F150 yesterday with a 13 3/4 X 19 SS prop (left over fm my old 200 hp), and it maxed out at 5600rpms. Its on a 19' Grady '91, total package with two people and full tank about 3300 lbs. My goal is higher top end instead of better hole shot. Should I try a 13 3/4 X 17 or a 14 1/4 X 18. I don't quite understand how the diameter of the prop can alter the rpms.

Re: Prop my F150

the 17 will get you much closer to the target rpm of 6000 but you might lose 3 or 4 mph. 5600 isnt a bad rpm for that engine but it is working a litle harder then say if you had the 18 or the 17.
more blade area to turn = more work to do.

Can't help you with the prop, but I am interested in the F150. How many hours do you have on it and how do you like it? Ease of service? ie: big mess? or well thought out. Thanks

Re: Prop my F150

I HAVE NEW F150 WITH 13.3/4 X 17 WITH 20 HRS MOUNTED ON 24 FT PRIVATEER 10FT BEAM TOP SPEED 38MPH @ 5600 RPM GETTING THE BEST FUEL ECONOMY ALMOST 4MPG@ 3000RPM AND 20MPH. WAS THINKING OF TAKING MY OLD PROP (WAS OFF 200HP) WHICH HAD A LARGER PITCH 14.1/2 X 17 FOR MORE SPEED(OLD SPEED WAS 44 MPH) BUT DEALER SAYS FUEL ECONOMY WILL DROP.

I have a 21' NorthRiver Seahawk that is powered with the F150. It came with a 13 3/4 x 19 aluminum prop from the dealership. I could only crank out about 5400 to 5600 rpm's max out of her until I put a 17 on her. Now she will get 6000 fully trimmed up at wot. I lost a few miles per hour in the deal but can still run about 44 miles per hour. Our boats weigh about the same so your results should be close.

If you want more top end speed, spend the cash and get you a stainless steel prop.
