Re: prop nut

What do you mean it won't turn at all. The prop won't turn or the nut won't tighten down? Just because you bought a different prop that doesn't mean it is a direct replacement for what you have. Some require a different thrust washer which goes on the prop shaft first -- then the prop. Pictures help!

Re: prop nut

I took it to mean the prop wouldn't turn after he tightened the nut. That says missing or incorrect thrust washer to me.

More information would be useful, I think. Prop brand, etc.

Re: prop nut

i think its the wrong prop. it says its for my motor but it doesnt fit, i think its too big. when i put all the old washers and nuts on there is bareley enough thread to put the prop nut on, then when i tighten the prop nut the prop wont turn at all. its a 4 blade comp prop on a 89 force 85hp.

Re: prop nut

Could be. So, what prop did you buy, and where? How did you select it? The part number is needed, along with the maker's name. That way, someone can look it up and see if it is the wrong prop for your outboard, or whether some special thrust washer is needed.

Re: prop nut

I had a friend that had the same thing happen...... cabelas is a re-seller and he went with iboats and has not looked back. Force had some strange drive systems with the L drive. The force L drive confuses cabelas.

Re: prop nut

Remove the prop. Inside the lower unit and around the prop shaft will be a zinc anode held on with two screws. Remove the anode and the prop should fit correctly.

The manufacturer does not tell you but the webs between the inner and outer prop hubs will bear against the anode, jamming the prop. Happens with Force lower units and Vortex props too.
