Prop or Smart tabs

Hello, I have a '96 Maxum 1900 sr2 with 4.3 lx mercruiser alpha 1. My problem is it takes awhile to plane out and I have to go about 30 to keep it planed. I know changing the prop would help get it out of the hole quicker, but would it help keep it planed at a lower speed or should I try something like the smart tabs on it?
Thanks for any advice

A prop won't help plane at lower speed. Tabs or trim angle.

Re: Prop or Smart tabs

Earlier this summer I switched from a 3 blade SS to a 4 blade aluminum (wanted to test the waters before I sprung for another SS) in an effort for better hole shot when pulling a skier. Went from 19 pitch to 18 pitch. I do in fact get much better hole shot and can stay on plane at about 300 less rpm than with the 3 blade. I did lose about 2 mph top speed but the lower end performance was worth it. So yes, in my case, a prop will let you stay on plane at a lower speed, due to the fact that you have less slip with a 4 blade.

I have a 2002 195 Bayliner with a 4.3 V6. I had a 19P prop and the hole shot was great, but the SMART TABS I installed make all the difference in the world. I just switched to a 21P and now I have top speed and almost zero bow rise (compared to what I had of course)! The only extra add-on I got was a retract kit to be able to raise it when we wakeboard or beach it. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!! You just install it and go............
