Prop pin question

I have rebuilt the lower unit on my 55' 7.5. When replacing the prop... I noticed that the pin that secures it to the shaft will slide right through... The rubber cap will keep it in there BUT I don't think it should be that loose. When I took it out, there was some rust and I sprayed some liquid wrench to ease her out... Now it is too loose... Is this OK? should I get a new one?

PS I am not talking about the cotter pin obviously.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Prop pin question

Rust is the problem. It should be made with a non-rusting metal. They slide easily, that's normal.

Drive pin for 7.5, 1955, P/N 302333, ishopmarine.com, $1.62 but shipping may eat you up. Best bet is local dealer.
