prop problem

I have a weird problem with a 15hp 2stroke merc. The original prop on there spins perfect with no signs of the shaft being bent.I put 2 newer props on it and it seems like either the props are not exactly perfect or the shaft is like i mean so slightly bent you can't really notice it unless you stare at it hard. Will this be a problem or has anyone had this problem? It almost seems like an optical illusion. But i can see a very slight wobble,i think if someone else looked at it they wouldn't even notice it.Also i noticed when i put a new prop on it doesn't spin as freely as the original,it seems like it is stiff.I mean i can turn it and it will spin but not like the original as that one spun real easy.Is this a common thing like maybe the prop has to work it's way in or something. What i'm thinking is i will just get the original prop redone and use it as it seem to be the best for it.I also have a new 15hp 4stroke and the prop spins really fast on a spin.Well i hope it's nothing to worry about.I just find it odd that one prop spins perfect and doesn't look off balance a bit and the other 2 are.Well if anyone can weigh in on this it would be great. Thanks

Re: prop problem

Is the original prop showing signs wear around the area that sits within the gearcase. If so, you probably have a bent prop shaft. It sounds like you have some suspicion that the prop shaft is bent... You might want to have that looked at by a repair shop. If the shaft is bent and you continue to run it you will eventually do a lot more damage to the gearcase. That would probably be a better discussion for a different forum on iboats

Re: prop problem

Well i just talked to 3 different merc dealers and they said it is not uncommon for the smaller props to be out of round. The original prop shows no sign of wear like your talking about.Paint will come off no matter what. That is going to happen.I think it's ok but i am going to look it over again.I will probally go have it looked at also as it cost me nothing. Thanks for the post.

Re: prop problem

Sometimes, the rubber hub --even on a new prop--just doesn't sit squarely in the bore and the prop will wobble while the shaft runs true.

A while back, I picked up a brand new Ballistic prop. It wobbled on the shaft. I could actually see the inside hub was crooked. I sent photos to Michigan and they replaced the hub--prop now runs true.

Re: prop problem

I can't tell for sure as i have stared this thing down for an hr and i put the prop that was on there originally and it is fine then i put the new prop on and it looks like there is a slight wobble.I'm bringing it in to a merc dealer tomorrow that i know real well and he is gonna look at it real quick to see if it has a bend in the shaft.I have bought a new prop and it wobbled so bad it took paint off the inside of the hub it sits in.I went and got a new prop from the same dealer and it was no were near as bad as the last prop,Then i put the original back on and not a wobble to be found and looks straight as an arrow.I'm either getting a bad batch of props or my shaft has a slight bend.I'm just getting fustrated looking at it anymore so i will let them look at it.

Re: prop problem

Well i don't know what to do anymore about this prop situation.I have had my prop shaft checked for a second time and the guy said it was dead on.Every quicksilver prop i have bought has wobbled to the point it is rubbing on the inside walls were the prop sits.I have looked at all the props that i have got and the center hub always seems to be off center a bit making the prop not spin right. Is this a common problem with new quicksilver props? How can i get 2 bad off centered props like this?Has this happened to anyone else? The original prop that came off that i am getting reconditioned fit perfect with no issues. From what i have been told by the guy who i dropped off my prop to:Quote "I talked to people who recondition these props and from what i just learned from them when a new prop is made they very rarely get them centered correctly and also don't balance them anymore".

Can this be true as i have never had a problem with quicksilver props before till i needed a prop for this little 15hp 2stroke mec i have.If anyone has ran into this problem can they please tell me if it was simillar to what is happening here.I'm afraid to buy a prop for this thing anymore as i have a 9p prop and want a 10p prop so i'm just having the guy make the original prop i got with the motor bigger. The first brand new one i got was off so bad it almost didn't spin as it would hit the inner wall and just dead stop and i would have to force it to turn, the 2nd one was way better but was still hitting the inner wall were the prop goes into. That shows me it can't be my shaft but getting 2 props that are that far off centered seems so crazy but if you look real close at it you can see the hub is leaning toward one way more as the first one was.Is there a really good prop company out there that never has these issues or can be trusted more then mercs props?I have heard of turning point rascal props, how are they?Ok i need help thanks.
