Ok, before I start, it has nothing to do with dia, or pitch. :D

But, the leading edges of my stainless steel prop for my 130 HP Yamaha have become a little rough over the years. Would you guys think its a good idea to take a small grinder to it like a dremel to smooth out the leading edges?

Re: Prop Question

Normally that's not a good idea. We do a lot of fishing on the flats - aka shallow water - and wear out leading edges all the time. Almost every time we see someone use a grinder the prop ends up more out of balance than if you leave it alone. All this is asuming we're talking about wear that creates sharp jagged edges, not missing chunks and/or bent blades. If it's worn, send it out. A good prop shop can restore it.

Yeah no chunks missing. It just has some rough edges from hitting sand/mud while just in gear trying to beach it or shallow water while fishing.

and my uncles horrible creek....

Re: Prop Question

Dropped it off at a local prop shop by me. Didnt realize it was so close. =| Haha.

They are reconditioning and balancing the prop for me for an estimated $100.

Re: Prop Question

Turbo made some "custom" props that had the Lightning Jr blades on a standard small T-1 prop. But they were in 20" pitch. I just happen to know where one is but if you can't swing a 20 it's not doing you any good.
