Prop Questions

I have a 1967 80 HP Johnson outboard motor, model number 80753 M, serial number E02761. I took the boat out after rebuilding the carbs for a test run and once I got out and put the boat in gear it would not go anywhere. When you tried to give it any throttle it would rev up but not move either in forward or reverse. Brought it in to find prop cone was broken drive pin sheered and missing a thrust washer. Went to marina replaced all those parts and took it out again to have it do the same thing. Came back in and the drive pin was sheered. I am new to boating and was wondering what you experienced guys thoughts were. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I dump all kinds of money into something that is ultimately junk.

idle too high? should be 700 to 750.
Too much slop in the drive pin holes? Perhaps excessive prop shaft end play?
It uses a 9/32 X 2 5/32 stainless drive pin.omc part 307217.
order of assembly prop,thrust washer,retainer(cone),cotterpin.

Talked to a relative and he as well suggested that the idle was to high. So I am going to replace the sheer pin and adjust the idle and try again on thursday. I will post a reply with my results. Also the sheer pin i got from the marina was part # 0309954. I dont know if that makes a difference but we will see. Thanks for the help and will see what happens

Went out today to fix the idle. Well got the idle fixed but before I could try it out the starter stopped working so now I have a whole new problem. But on a good note when I got the boat back on the trailer the sheer pin was still whole and intact.
