To All,

I currently have a Trophy Walkaround 2503 with a Mere 225 EFI. I currently have a 15p prop on it. My mechanic suggesting possibly moving up to 17p or 19p to decreased top end RPM. The problem is we don't know which before buying a new one. I can't exactly "borrow" a prop to test it from a dealer either. Any suggestions???

Are you hitting the rev limiter currently ?

These guys offer a pitch exchange program I think you just pay return shipping or some nominal fee

I have used them over the years for a couple of repairs jobs as the semi local shop by me is over an hour away.

They also sell used/reconditioned props. I found most of my props on ebay. I wanted to try a few different styles - the ones that didnt work out I sold for basically the same money

Merc does have a prop demo program as well. Maybe check their site and see if one is local.

What rpm and speed are you currently running?

I’m running a 15 x 15 on a 22’ boat with 225 hp at 5800.

Cant imagine running a 17 or 19” prop on a 25’ boat with only 225 HP

No matter what, we need to know what your current engine is turning at wot with your current prop, then compare that to the max operating rpm recommended by the engine mfgr. Anything else is a guess !!

I think if you read his post he is hitting the pm limit before throttle is fully open, hence “we won’t know “
of course he hasn’t been back so we are just talking to ourselves

Where did he say this.
Could be wrong but I would think that based off the comment below. if he knew his current rpm would think it is fairly easy to estimate about 400 rpm drop going up 2”, and 800 rpm drop going up 4” in pitch assuming staying with similar prop type. Maybe I misinterpreted but cant imagine if the wot rpm was known that a mechanic couldn’t recommend if a 17 or 19 would get the rpm down in the correct range

Kind of irrelevant since he hasn’t been back, but I’m going from a different angle. Something wrong with his prop or engine setup.

He’s under powered for a 25’ boat.
Found a performance bulletin for his boat with a 300 Hp Verado running a 17”, 3 blade.

I’m running basically the same setup on a 22’ boat of the same weight with a 15” @ 5800.

In what world do you push a bigger boat with same hp and prop pitch at higher rpm or push a 17” prop to WOT with 75 less HP?

you don’t . Yeah something doesn’t add up, unless gear case is different ratio. As you said we’re more interested in this thread than the OP.

thanks for sharing those real world numbers. I wonder what max hp rating is for that boat
