i have tp replace my water pump on my 76 evinrude 115hp why do i need to remove my prop to remove the gear case

You don't have to, the manual suggests it just as a precaution so you don't ding it up when fighting with the leg.<br />Eric

Props should be removed at least once a season even more often in salt water. those tings have a way of growing onto those splines, And can be a bear to get off if they become coroded.<br /><br />Paint prop shaft with aintiseize compound. Or at least heavy grease. then remove prop a couple or three times during the season.<br /><br />Luck to ya!
