New boat owner, first time out messed up the prop pretty good ( or it came that way and I didnt inspect closely, so I read these forums for about a week and located my prop 13 inch 17pitch 3 blade for 1987 70 hp johnson OB. I ordered from Iboat and took the suggestion to get a matching hub...glad I did as I found no way to get the old hub out of the old prop. ( and I gave it a good banging)
the prop and hub where volvo penta and they had some instructions thank god because the selco manual real vague on this topic.
My question is this---- The mention of what ( new prop ) called a thrust washer and placement made no sense to where that was on the original so I left it off. suggested to place it at the base of the prop shaft before I put the prop on ...the exact part by the look of it came off the outside nearer the cotter pin ( pin/nut/then this "thrust washer" this has a metal center that the splines fit into and on the original DO go over the splines.
The back of the shaft has no splines and is a larger diameter so that must be some other design prop shaft.
There was a rubber donut fit tightly ( wont come out for reuse as far as I could figure ) where the old prop meets the back of the prob shaft.im thinking this may have been what the seloc book calls a " shock absorber" but the rest of the book doesnt address where...the blow up doesnt show no stinken shock absorber!
So I put it together the way it fit, with the back of the aluminum hub tight to the prop shaft and continued on thinking that they both spin together and should work.
everything fit nicely after that as if it has been redesigned.
but I have this extra part ( pic ) and and extra plastic ring that came with the prop ( ? ) but thats another issue
have any of you had this extra part after a prop/hub change?

2 parts not used , left is what they call thrust washer , right plastic ring came with new prop?
Old prop with what I think is an important differnance- that outer ring lift up ..something about directing the exhaust? new prop doesnt have , I think they want me to use that plastic do dad, but there is no way that is fitting on the end of the new prop?
any help will be greatly appreciated!
