Prop Rubbing on Case

I just bought a 1989 Chaparral 178xl, 3.0 mercruiser, Alpha 1 outdrive. My question is... I noticed that the prop rubs against the gear case. The propeller is a quicksilver 17p stainless prop. Is the thrust washer not thick enough? In/out play on the prop shaft is about 1/16 inch(which my research indicates as normal). I'm totally new to this, but can assume that a thicker thrust washer would be the cure. Am I correct? And if so, where might I purchase one? Maybe a part number for one?? Thanks!!

Re: Prop Rubbing on Case

Replace your thrust washer. The tapered center of yours is warn, allowing the prop to seat too far back.
DO NOT put grease on that taper when reinstalling the new one.
I don't know off hand what the P/N is, just go into any boat supply store and request one for an Alpha one drive, year doesn't matter, they are all the same.
