Newbe boater looking for help selecting witch .........prop mfg. or prop series........ is going to provide best performance for my 1984 Ski Centurian Barefoot Warrior. 20'8", Hull wieght is advertised around 1100lbs. Power is a Murcury 200hp BlackMax outboard on a jack plate. It currently has a 3 blade SS. Precision Prop. Marked with hand scribe: 13.75dia, w/20 deg of pitch. WOT is 6400rpm. With 3 adult and 1 big kid (800lbs+/-) gps is 62mph.

This is 400rpm high of mfg reccomend max of 6000rpm. So were looking at props. I'm "thinking" a 21 to 23 degree prop should bring down the rpm and pick up the top speed. Becuase it "feels" like it leaves out of the hole so strong now that i doubt that it could suffer on the bottom end?

With the motor being so old the prop guides don't specify BLACK MAX as engine discripsion. Im hoping that the discription : "THRU HUB EXHAUST & 15 TOOTH SPLIN, V6 GEAR CASE" will be the basic as to inter-changing with other out drives. ie: Bravo 2, Alpha 1? please correct me if not the case.

Now the original question....whats the difference from Laser2, vs Trophy plus vs Tempest vs Michgian vs any others. Why should i purchase one over the next. I know price is a consideration but is a 3 blade prop a 3 blade prop? The porting and shape play big on the performance? Any help insight will be appreciated. Nothing like time on the road or water that is.

Since that outfit is a repair facility(don't manufacture), there's no telling what brand that prop started life as.

If you visit the Mercury Marine web site and go to "explore propellers", you'll see a description/application of the various styles of Mercury props to match your intended use.

As far what will fit your motor; all the V-6 outboards, and the Alpha 1 and Bravo 1 stern drives use the same props.

What brand is "best" is a matter of opinion. It could be that Mercury is number one for a reason.
