I have a 99Stingray 192RX cuddy cabin with a 4.3L V6. Right now I have a Laser II 23P SS prop on it and the WOT is 4500 rpm @ 48mph(GPS) I was wanting to bing it up to 4800 rpm. So I was thinking of going down a 1" in pitch to raise the rpm. My questions are one, if I decide to use a 4 blade prop I have heard you need to go down another inch (a 22" 3 blade = 21" 4 blade) and also have heard that a V6 might not have enough power to use a 4 blade prop. I dont wont to do anything to hurt my boats performance but I wouldn't mind a little quicker acceleration and other handling benifits associated with the 4 blade. Thanks for any advice you can offer

First off, since your boat is a 99 model, be sure your engine is in tune. If the plugs, wires, cap and rotor are fresh, then keep reading. If not, tune it up and see where it stands.

You are so close to 4800 rpm, that you could have the prop labbed to gain the extra rpm. A good prop shop can modify your laser for better hole shot and to carry the extra 300 rpm that your looking for. Often times, this is cheaper than purchasing a new wheel.

(a 22" 3 blade = 21" 4 blade)

Fact, Or as close to one as you can get.

and also have heard that a V6 might not have enough power to use a 4 blade prop.

Myth. End of story.

I have a couple 4 blades, I wont use a 3 blade with a gun to my head.

I agree with above. The MPH seems a bit slow, but a 21p will help with what your looking for.

I think you are getting good speed considering you boat/motor/prop combo as is. That is a 19ft cuddy with a 4.3l (190hp?) at 48mph. I think that is pretty good. My boat weighs very similar to yours and my 4.3 typically goes about 45mph at 4800rpms (21p) (maybe 48 if I dumped some weight). I agree with the 4 blade, and I don't think a laser II is exactly designed for cuddy stern drive applications (heavy load).

I would think 21p in 4 blade would be a good starting point, 20p if you want better hole shot and towing ability etc... Let us know what you do and the results....

23@4500
22@4700
21@4900

Now drop a 100 for the 4th blade puts a 21@4800.. I have ran two lasers with not so good results on a boat very similar to yours. I have been told they do much better on light weight bass boat...I/O's are not there high point..

A stiletto baypro 11 in a 20p will more than probably incresase your boats performance in hole shot.. midrange.. and top end. I would guess your wot @ 4800-4900 it is a agressively cupped prop

Or a Solas HR titan in a 21 4 blade is another good pick and again probably 4800--4900...Thats a good buy on that prop

I-boats does price match and the Stilletto is really a great prop..;)

Ohh your motor has more than enough power to turn a 4 blade...:D

You have PM you might check it out

Thanks everyone for the good advice The motor has all new wires, plugs, cap, rotor and coil. I just rebuilt it this summer. I think I will probably move to a 4 blade design which should give me some more acceleration and some better handling. Thanks for the tip tailgunner
