Hi I have a 1992 Four Winns Sundowner with a 351 cobra and OMC outdrive. I currently have a 14 1/2 inch prop with a 19 pitch on it. I’m having a difficult time planning out when I have three or four people on board it takes a very long time. I know some of this is normal but it seems like it’s taking way too long does anybody know the exact prop that came with this set up or can you just give me some advice? Would a 14 inch prop with a 17° pitch help me out? Im not looking for top end. Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave. Pitch is measured in inches not degrees. The pitch is the distance the propeller will move forward, without any slip, on 1 revolution.

To answer the question yes, a 17" pitch prop will improve your acceleration...

Will add : Distribute evenly the extra passengers load on deck, with a less prop pitch combo will plane much faster than before. Would be good to know when the new prop is installed, at which max wot rpm the motor revs at when solo boating and/or with 3-4 up to check if running inside the min-max wot rpm range factory stated for that motor.

Happy Boating
