I didn't see the boey, took out a blade and bent the shaft. How long does it take to change the shaft on my 95 OMC 4.3L, Cobra SX sterndrive. I looked for the shaft and found one for $323. Costly boo boo.

Look around you might find a lower unit?
Don't think you'll need to re-shim.
You should be able to do it in a couple of hours???
But that doesn't include, removing from the drive etc.
I have more exp with the older Cobras.the SX looks pretty straight forward.
Will add more.Gotta run.

With the right tools, it's only a 1 - 2 hour job. I have a 2000, 3L volvo penta SX. On mine, there is a special tool needed to remove the bearing carrier that holds the prop shaft in. I built the tool, which took several hours. After that, it only took about 30 minutes to drain the oil on the drive and pull the carrier. The prop shaft comes right out then. I took the shaft on mine to a machine shop and had it straightened for $18. It will take about 30 min to install a shaft seal and O-ring on the carrier and reassemble. You may need to put a new bearing on the new shaft as well. This is all assuming there is nothing else wrong with the drive and the bearing carrier is not corroded in place. Sometimes a strike can cause a lot more damage, which is why a lot of shops will just recommend you replace the drive.
