Prop Shaft Seal Leakage again

Hi guys,

Just after replacing all lower unit seals (1990 90hp) after having leakage around bearing carrier.

Running a pressure test i can see the new prop shaft seal is now leaking around its outside surface, ie not around the prop shaft itself but around the seals to carrier surface.

Just wondering could it be that the seal needs pressed in more. Seals are currently inside a few mm's but havnt been pushed against bearing, or is it more likely carrier surface has been damaged, are there any fixes for this?

Didnt want to have to pull seals again

Thanks

Re: Prop Shaft Seal Leakage again

Was the seal contact area in the carrier really clean?
The seals should be seated all the way down in the carrier, although I don't think that is the problem. The problem is either you damaged the carrier surface or the seals when you installed them. Did you apply any sealer to the outside of the seals when you put them in? The correct way to repair the leak would be to pull the carrier and repair properly. You might be abe to apply some type of sealer around the seal and see if it will fix it.

Sounds like you didn't get the seal OD area clean.
