Hi All,
I have a 1965 Merc 350, sn 1888644. After considerable trouble removing the old seals from the bearing carrier (which resulted in the need for welding and machining to repair
) I'm ready to press the new seals in. Unfortunately, the merc manual and parts list diagrams don't show which one goes in first.
1 seal is thicker than the other, this was the inner seal when I disassembled. The thinner seal was the outer one (towards the prop). The inner seal had the spring side facing into the lower unit, the outer seal had the spring side facing out.
I have no idea if the last person to do this put them in correctly. Does anyone know if that is correct configuration?
For reference, the "thinner" seal is part #26-23517 and the "thicker" seal is part #26-90562.
Thanks in advance,
Mick
