i am getting a new prop and would like to try a different size. i have a 18' thompson with a 70 johnson and it is a dog when i take off if i have more than 2 people in the boat. i don't have a tach so i'm not sure of the rpm's. it has a 13 1/4 x 17 on it now and get 25 mph. any suggestions would be great. thanks

Re: prop size

Without a tach its just a shot in the dark at best. Could be an expensive shot.....

17" sounds like a lot of pitch for that rig and probably explains your problem. Like Dhadley says, you really need a tachometer to see which way you need to go and then whether you've gone the right way.
