Bit more info to narrow things down.
So last night I was bored and I started playing with the shifter. As you all may know I have an issue that resembles my dog and gears dying.
If you use the console shifter it feels soft. The gears dont *pop* in. You really cant tell the difference between fwd neutral or reverse..
With it connected, I remember that the prop slowly spins in the forward direction in the neutral position with the engine at idle.
So I disconeccted the linkage and shifted the boat manually using the tab on the starboard side. It clicks firmly into reverse, neutral and fwd. When you shift to fwd, there is two clicks. one that feels soft, then a firm solid one afterwords. There is about 1/8th-1/4" play in the shifter tab when in drive.
When the engine is idle and in neutral, the prop does not spin at all.
As well while in fwd and reverse, the prop has about a 1/4 turn worth of play.
So my I am lead to believe that perhaps my linkage is to blame for the problems. I wont know until the boat is actually in the water again, of course.
My question is, should the prop spin in neutral while idling?
