19' glass bass boat. Weight probably average of your "run of the mill" similar bass boats.
Motor 300 Evinrude.

Just finished hanging the boat on the motor and am wondering which pitch to start with?? And....Doug, Kenny...One of ya'll want to come test drive this thing?

Re: Prop starting point DH, Kenny?

I had a 300 on a 19' Rabco. Interesting ride.

I'd start with any of the 25, 26, 27's you have. The gear ratio is different than a V6 so the prop size may not be that different. But with the array of props you have to test we can get dialed in real quick. Plus you'll want more rpm than a V6 anyway.

A few V8 things --

A 20" V8 is actually 23".
A V8 lives on fuel pressure (and therfore dies from lack thereof). No primer bulb, no thru hull fittings, no 90* fittings allowed.
3/8" ID hose only. Not all 3/8" hose is created equal.
If you have the carbs apart put crossflow needle and seats in.
Don't put a nosecone on a 300 gearcase. The upper mount will suffer. A cone on a 275 case, maybe.
They love rpm. If you set it up at 5800 you might as well get a V6 and save carrying around all that weight. A 300 pack has a rev limiter at 6700. Get close.
The bottom end on the 3.6 300 is horrible. But once it hits 3200-3400 you better be holding on to something.

Thanks for the 300 pointers. Any more would be appreciated.
I'll start with the 25" and move up from there.

This is a different boat. (all I needed was one more project...lol)
Still playing with set-up on the v-6 Skeeter.

You should be able to shorten the splines on the prop hubs, or change the hubs if they're that style, so you can use them on the E-rude.

Got some of those Merc props with hub kits. Those will work to get me started I think.
I've still not run the prop you sent me. Right now I'm fishing a "hole" every chance I get (every time the boat hits the water).
Getting in to this place is a trick and you can feel the skeg guard rubbing bottom for about 1/4 mile. (launching getting out of there is sometimes a trick as well).
Soon though, I'll see what that Lightning is capable of....

Dont do it Kenny! Unless you're prepared to go get a V8 afterwards. Once you run one of those things set up right, you'll have to have one.

There's just something about having to have a step ladder to get the hood off of a 20" motor that gets to ya.

Very good Ron.

I'm with you about Brownies new project. He's being a little secretive. Holding the details "close to the vest" so to speak. He's got my interest! And I have an idea he'll get the set up nailed.

Kenny, got a bag packed?

Re: Prop starting point DH, Kenny?

It's a 19' VIP Stealth. I thought I may have the only one in existence. Can't find much of any info about it.
But, I saw a newer one at a tournament the other day....so....at least they do exist. lol.
Some pics can be seen of mine in the Boat Restoration Forums under topic "how to or how not to restore a boat".
Took alot of weight out of it, straightened out the rear 10' of hull again, again, again, and again.
I'm now adding weight from mid toward the front (re-designing the front deck and compartments).
It does not appear to be a "fast" design hull up front, but, it does look like it will be a smooth ride in rough water.
It'll be a couple of months before she hits water.

Skeeter update: 25" high five for several weeks now. 62mph/5800rpm tournament loaded or just me. Smooth ride.
The high five has a few characteristics I don't like. Isn't all that "they" talk it up to be.
Does seem to get noticably better gas mileage though.

Can't be just real secretive...
I mean, after all, I've got a house hanging off the back of this boat.
It provokes the mental image of backing it off the trailer and it just heading straight to the bottom stern first.
