Smallblock, nice to read that you're beginning to fully understand boating issues. Have same issue, OB won't rev past 3/4 to full grip while metered with a Hardline induction tach. In my particular case my small 320 Sib wich has more hull drag compared to a larger one can't be planed with a underpowered small OB with standard factory delivered prop.. Going for one less pitch will gain more rpm throughout the whole throtttle range which will translate into a better fast displacement speed at full grip with 2 up than before.
A underpowered OB with standard factory delivered prop will fully rev at 3/4 or less grip and stay there, same when going full grip, a prop max will make the trick revving much more.
Happy Boating
