HELP! I can't get My Prop Off My 89 125 Force

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guys,,my prop does not have a cotter pin to remove. It looks to me has just a plain ole nut. I have tried everything in my tool box to get this thing to break free and it won't.

Any pointers! I even tried to beat my wrench with a hammer while soaked with WD!!

Thanks, Tim

I don't s'pose you have an air gun in your tool box?
Although I've never had success on props, P.B. Blaster.

I don't have any air tools but,,,,I have the Lower Unit off . Last night I changed the Water Pump and thought while I had it on the bench I would greese the prop.

I'll take it down to a shop and see if they can get it loose.

BUY SOME ANTI-Sieze Too!!!

Triple Guard grease on the splines will outlast anti-seize on the prop any day...
Grease!!!! Any grease is better than no grease...as quoted by our great member Bondo...;)

Sounds like you can't unscrew the nut.? try PB blaster.I've heard of amazing results. Both on nuts and releasing props.WD is pretty much useless compared
to it.

PB blaster is the way to go...much better than WD-40.
Impact wrench may be needed to get the nut loose.

UPDATE!!!!

Hey Guys,
I got the Prop Nut Off!

Dear Santa,,, Please bring me some of those AIR TOOLS!!!

I stopped by our local boat dealer and the tech was the only one there ( They are closed until after new year),,,,,,anyway he just happen to be there and I told him about the Nut not coming off. He looked in the back of my truck and seen it there.
He told me to pull around to the shop,,,,,,brought out a 15/16 air socket,,,,stuck a piece of wood to hold prop and ZZZZZZZZ!,,,,,,,the nut flew off.
He rubbed his head and said what idiot put this Nut on there? He said it was a lock nut that they used 30 years ago in the Auto Industry.
There was a hole in the Shaft for a Cotter Pin,,,,,,,reached in his tool box,,,spun on a nut,,,put in a new Cottor Pin and Merry Christmas!!!

That goes to show you,,,when you buy these old engines,,,no matter how well built they may seem, you will come across a problem that will make you wonder!!!

Get a Survey!!!! When buying a used boat.

Thanks Everybody!
Merry Christmas

Tim, It is good you got it off, however, now I recommend you remove the prop and grease the splines. You do not want the prop to corrode onto the propshaft.
