Hello there, i recently acquired a 1988 Rinker 195CC with 4 cylinder 3.0L. The engine starts right away and when i was testing it with a water muff while still on the trailer the propeller won't move once i put in gear. It started to heat up so I turned it off. Once off the propeller will turn both directions by hand once in nuetral. Also while engine is off, if i put it in gear, the propeller will only turn in one direction, so if gear is forward, propeller will only turn to the right, if gear is backward, propeller will only turn to the left. Any ideas of why the propeller is not turning with the engine on?
Thanks,

The over heat is most likely it needs the impeller in the drive replaced.

Not going into gear, might need a lower shift cable replaced.

Since you need to remove and split the drive for the impeller, drain the lube and see what you find. When in half check the operation of the shift clutch in the lower half.

In the bottom of my signature is a link to the Adults Only section. Click on it and have a look in the Mercruiser section, there is a lot of info in there about how to's

What type of outdrive? Could be coupler spun or bad gears or shaft also...
