prop ??

Is that cone shaped thing over the prop nut neccessary? the screw on my buddys is stripped or something like that said he needs to find a new one for it, its a 81 chrysler 85 hp . there is a nylock holding the prop on ,what is that thing for?

Some Forces have a short shaft and do not have the tail cone. It is a 25 dollar part.
When the screw strips, the threads are not more than 1/4 inch long. Drill the cone about 1/4 inch deeper with a 3/8 drill and the screw will again have something to thread into. OR--drill, tap, and heli-coil it. regular 14/20 threads.
By the way, that screw is the same part that is in the side of the gear case and holds the shift yoke in position.
