Re: Propane conversion

IMO, a very bad idea.

There is a reason why alcohol stoves are preferred over propane stoves, for boats.

Re: Propane conversion

Wouldn't a H2 system be a better option?

Well, if you're talking gas, no. The only way to transport H2 in volume is liquid. Propane liqufies under pressure. With H2 you're talking very high pressures or cryrogenics to liquify. Not practical.
I just got some feed back on another forum from some Brits. It's very common on the other side of the pond as the price of Petrol for pleasure use dictates it. There are even companies that specialize in conversion kits and installations.

Cheers!

Re: Propane conversion

Was thinking more of the add on generators. They almost double the mpg of the big blocks in trucks. Most guys have a switch to run straight gas when the going is tough, (towing, cold weather, ect.) . On the open road at cruising speed they pay for themselves, seems like a option to look into for the cruisers. I just don't like the idea of two flammable gases running through rubber hoses in a closed area. Maybe the brits have come up with a safe solution. Thanks for the info.

Re: Propane conversion

There is no data to support that ^^^^^ Automotive engineers consider a 3% fuel efficiency benefit as a major achievement resulting in professional respect, increased sales, increased salary and hero worship. There is no law or bogey man that keeps inventions from the general public and there is nothing that is doubling fuel efficiency unless we are talking converting a 50 year old carb'd 2 cycle into a modern, electronic 4 cycle diesel. I made that up, but probably close

I don't mean to be argumentative, or to offend, but the saying goes: In God we trust, all others show us your data . . . ;)

P.S. I work for an engine skunk works company. We are headquartered in England. Buyer beware :)
