I have a 2007 Sweetwater 1880 Tuscanny Pontoon Boat. It has a 2006 Yamaha 50hp 2 Stroke. (regular 50). I usually run 3 people on it. I have 2 Batteries, 18 gallon Fuel Tank, and about 200 lbs gear.

At full throtle i am running about 5400 - 5500 rpms with a 12 1/4 x 9 aluminum Prop.

Does anyone have any recomendations on a different prop size?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Propeller Help Needed

From about 3/4 - full throttle the motor just reves quicker but the boats stays the same speed. Plus the manual says RPm should be between 4500 - 5500 and im running at 4400 - 4500.

I was thinking if i went up a pitch or two it would drop my rpms and be faster.

Your original post said 5400 to 5500 RPM's. If that is the case, your current prop is fine.

You are fine. Stick with what you have. You may see a little improvement with a pontoon specific cupped prop, with the same diameter and pitch, but I doubt it.

Just enjoy it!!!

Hope this helps. And if you need a new prop I have a 13 1/2 x 17 came off a 90hp merc mariner and will fit yamaha. And I have a 13x19 came off same motor. They are brand spanking new stainless steel props with exception i ran them both twicw to find they where the rong prop for my sized boat wieght. So they did go ona test run. But they are in better then excellent condition and its a shame! So if interested and if the site helped send me a P.M... Thanks and good luck

A eglide Its 191 first of all. And why would he deff not want props from me? Why because you are my biggest fan following me araound and trying to bash me and talk smack because you and others are jealous and have nothing better to do? Please.... You are so funny. My and my friend are laughing and giggling right now! heheheh.... Anyway. I can text some pictures of the props they are like brand new used 1 time each. So if interested send a P.M the size that worked best for me was a 13x18P Because of the wieght and people and fishing kicker etc .... I was looking for mid range WOT which with the 18P is 41mph at 5350 rpm.... With the 17P it did 5000 rpm at 34 and the 13x19 it was 5500 at 35 or 36 mph So the 13x18 was best for me. It also allowed me to cruise at 3800 Rpm at plane which was the lower rpm of planing out of all the props. The mer prop finder website was right all along... So thats why I suggested it! Good day!:D:);):cool::D

As I reread my post, I see how you might think I was bashing you, but I assure you I was not. What I should have said is don't buy a 17" or 19" pitch from ANYONE because that is too much for your boat and motor.

A 17 IS too much prop for a 50HP-
I run a 17 on my pontoon & i have a Johnson 110HP:cool:

Yea jeep The power recomended range is 5K to 5800 but they say You want it really between 5K and 5500 rpm... The sweet spot is 5300 or 5350 etc.... So I think you are in that sweet spot range! I think you are good to go!

I'm running a 13p and I squeaked out a couple MPH more than with my 11p. I was told, by the guy in my local prop shop, I should not go higher than 13p. Since I was replacing a spun hub, I was willing to try something new.

FYI, I also called Lowe, and they said a 13 is what they would have recommended.
