Hey All,
New to boating and the forum,
First question is,
Out of the hole??
Does that mean how fast we can get the boat to plane?
Second Question having to do with the first?
I have a 93 I/O Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha LX 1
I hope that is correct in a 17' Larson Bow rider
It has a 21 pitch prop.
We are water sking and wake boarding
Would like to improve performance, to plane faster
have been told a 17 pitch and 19
what would be better?
I hope I have provided the correct info.:)

first things first.. we need your actual WOT with the prop and what is the manufacturers recomended WOT range....

how fast, how long does it take for the boat to plan out once you gave it gas?

Re: propeller question

WOT is about 4400
4800 is the recommended
So I am thinking I can only go to a 19 pitch
Correct?

Re: propeller question

It is a little slow to plane out with a 200 lb wakeborder on the back,
i'm now thinking 3 blade 19 pitch stainless steel.
make sense?

I'm so new at this I might not have replied in the right way to your response.

usually theres a range... :) my 120 Johnson 1989 manufact rec. range 5000-6000 what you are trying to acomplish is go get as close as you can to the max rpms and not go over... i think 19 ss should be fine....

the only way to find out the prop that you need is by trial and error...

Re: propeller question

You can drop about 2" in pitch and try that. What i do is I have 4 props. one for just crusing, 17p. one for pulling 15p. and one for a spare, just to get back if the worst happens. Whats the 4th you may ask. its the one that the worst happened to.
I just put on the one that i want use with what im doing. I never run WOT as i have a little 16'er with an 85 HP. the motor will go way faster than the boat wants to go.
But i would have one a couple inch's pitch less than the 21 for pulling of its not to good out of the hole. You might even try 4" 's but that will really make a difference.

Re: propeller question

4600 would be the best wot rpm. and if your into water sports you cant go wrong with a 4 blade. beter hole shots, slower on plane speed, better fuel ecc., better reverse, most case faster wot. if it were mine id get a 19 pitch 4 4 blade. should put you around 4500-4600.
