I have a 75 hp Johnson ('63). The propeller that is on it right now is a Michgan wheel pj76. I am looking into getting a new one. Shoud I stick with the same size, or can I use a different size to help with HP. For the most part the boat will be used for towing an inner tube or a knee boarder.

Re: propeller question

water_surge

I don't know what size prop you have based on the I.D. you gave, but propping the motor correctly would depend on what your wide open throttle RPM's are now. Call a couple of prop shops and see if they know what prop you have. I assume you don't have a Tach. now to check it, but you can get a Tach that hooks onto your spark plug wire and is very easy to install. It's called a Tiny Tach. They are about $40.00. See if you can find any other numbers or letters on the prop hub to help identify it. Normally, you would want to drop down in pitch when pulling tubers or a skier. Some people use 2 different pitch props. One for tubing/Sking, one for general use.
