Propeller replacement

I needed to replace the prop on my 1996 Johnson 130 outboard and am on my second prop. The first prop did not fit as the replacement manufacturor recommended a 13x19 prop. The motor really required a 14.5 x 19. Now my issue is whether this is correct or at least usable. The propellor shaft along with cotter pin exend beyond the propellor cone. It did not do this with the old prop. Also, there is around a 16th inch of difference between the bolt and the cotterpin after the bolt is tightened down. This means that the metal stamp (with the fingers) is loose. How much distance can there be between the bolt and cotterpin? Attached is a picture. The prop seems to fit nicely on the shafter and inserts into the motor fine. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Propellor replacement

From what you've posted and the pic, this does not seam to be a good fit for your engine though it can work. when the prop nut is screwd up aginst the cotter pin there should not be excessive play of the prop sliding along the shaft. You can place an appropriately sized (to the shaft) Stainless Steel washer (shim) beneeth the prop nut to take up the play. The shaft protruding past the prop is not optimal, but wont hurt anything. Keep an eye on it though it might be a fishing line magnet. Personally, I try to find a better fitting prop.
