Propeller shaft nut size for ETec 150

I have a 2010 ETEC 150 HO. For the propeller shaft nut it just uses a hex nut and then one of those thin metal castle nut covers to convert it into a castle nut.

I want to replace it with a proper castle nut. What is the nut size and thread type of the propeller shaft nut for those engines?

Thanks in advance,

1-1/16 and torque to 10-12 ft. lbs.

Thanks for the response but I'm not sure your answer gives me all of the information I need. What's the propeller shaft outside diameter and thread type? If I buy a castle nut to fit on that shaft, it might not be the same "size" (i.e. require the same socket or wrench size) as the hex nut they use. What's important is that I get the o.d. of the shaft/the i.d. of the nut and the thread type matched up correctly.

Any reason to change the OE design aside from preference? For my money, I'd stick with what was put there by the factory. If their engineers thought it was right it's right - even if it's a bean counter cost saving vs the brass castle nut like on my old 90.

My guess is that they went with the regular hex nut and the thin metal castle cover thingy (technical term) because it was cheaper. OMC motors always had nice, high quality brass castle nuts for their propellers and I prefer them to the setup that my engine came with. The flimsy thin metal castle cover thingys (don't know what you call them) seem cheap and less reliable to me. I'd rather have a solid brass castle nut there.

This youtube video will show you how to determine the size, thread type and pitch of your nuts and bolts.

Thanks for that. The boat is currently 400 miles away at my cabin so I don't have access to it and won't for several weeks. I was hoping someone here knew the shaft diameter and thread type so I could get the nut I need and take it out to the lake with me next time I head out there.

Go to a local dealer and compare the 150 nut to the one off a 2011 60 hp .Theres nothing fancy about the tread.just don't get fine thread that's all.Theres thousands of motors out there with your setup I wouldn't sweat it ,unless you lose the cotter pin its not going anywheres and even then if you catch it a peace of wire or nail will get you home.I will go out and measure mine for you.

nut 1 1/8, i.d 5/8 standard thread.check with your local brp dealer to make sure the 150 has the same size shaft as the 60 .I just checked on here and the 150 shows a different number for the kit than the 60 .if you get it from here you want 18-3715 kit .17.05 for nut, spacer and washer.Because your shaft is a 15tooth spline vs 13 for mine I bet you shaft size is 3/4 vs 5/8.Heck for all it costs id get a 5/8 ,3/4 and 7/8 i.d castle nut and the 2 that don't fit can always be use for something else.standard thread.
