Propeller Shaft

I recently purchased a 1975 Chrysler 10HP outboard. After test running the engine, I noticed the propeller shaft has been bent. I took the prop shaft to a machine shop, however, they were unable to straighten it. The Force/Chrysler dealer cannot get a prop shaft anymore and no salvage yard seems to have the right gearcase for the engine. I would really like to keep the engine, but where can I get a new or used prop shaft?<br /><br />Model# 102HD<br />Serial# 8161<br />Two-Piece Gearcase

Have you tried Fairwinds Marina at: www.fairwindsmarina.com . Dont think I would spend much time or money trying to save that motor.Their reputation is a little shakey and its<br />an orphan.If you had an E/J even if ten years older than your motor you could get parts at any good dealer or even NAPA. Good luck.

I think alot of the older motors have a slight bend in the prop shaft from hitting lake debris. They are very expensive to replace. My 88 Bayliner has a slight bend in it. It isnn't enough though to cause any noticeable vibrations. The replacement shaft for mine is $400. If you dont feel any vibration when running the motor i wouldn't spend the money fixing it.

Thanks guys. I'll try Fairwinds and some other marinas. The shaft was bent bad enought to score the outer seal and I was worried it might begin to leak. I just hate to ditch the motor since I have the remote steering and throttle/shifter controls. It was only used for a few hours in fresh water then mothballed.
