I am having my propeller repaired, and would like to know if the shaft should be greased before the propeller is placed back on, and when I took the prop nut off, It was just snug, Is that how tight it should be? thanks
The prop shaft should be heavily greased with anti corrosive grease. Should you need to change the prop while in the water (offshore), you would want it to come off easily.
omc man,

Use OMC Triple Guard grease or white lithium.

The nut should be tightened gently and then backed off to the next cotter pin hole in the castle nut.
hello
for stainless props tight is good. I think the book says about 50 ft lbs. this is to keep the prop from working on the shaft and thrust washer. the new flo-torque hubs go to 55 ft lbs. this is where the service manual is handy.
read it and belive it.
good luck and keep posting
