Propeller slipping for a while and then worked fine

After crossing a very shallow part of the river with a lots of weeds and mud, the motor went hot, after getting out of the shallow and the motor cooled down but the propeller started to slip at around 2500 RPM and were worst above 3000RPM. Well, I kept it slow, fish and enjoyed the afternoon. At the time to go I tried again to raise my speed and it worked perfectly, no slipping. Should I take the prop to be checked? It's an Alpha 1 Gen 2 with a New (this was it's second run) 14.5 - 21p ss propeller and a 4.3L mercruiser. What could happened?

Also, after it stopped slipping, the engine started to heat up when run it at 4000RPM but when reduced to 2500RPM it cools down really fast.

Please any advice will help

You can check the prop yourself. Make a mark on the hub, and prop. Run it till it slips. The marks will no longer line up. If you ran through weeds/muck you may have had a bunch of weeds on the prop making it seem like its slipping when its just the weeds causing that. Running hot could be because the weeds were blocking the water inlet but, the muck could have ruined the impeller. Time to replace the impeller before you ruin the motor.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... Ya loaded the prop with weeds,....
As soon as you cleared the weedbed, poppin' it into reverse, 'n a quick pump of the throttle, you'd have cleared the prop,.....

As for the overheating, I'd pull the lower unit, 'n service the impeller pump,.....
Ya probably burnt it up, starving it of water with the weeds, 'n mud,....

Sounds like your hub has some it’s job and perished partly. Impeller is on its way out too.

It checks will at this point don't arrange. On the off chance that you went through weeds/sludge you may have had a lot of weeds on the prop causing it to seem like its slipping when its simply the weeds causing that.
