Hi all, and thank you for your help in the past.
I have looked in my manual, on this site, and numerous others and have not found what I am after. Sorry in advance if I am just stupid!!!!

Here's my problem...... My rebuilt 1979, 115 hp, evenrude out board model # 115993R, Just had the prop fall off into the lake! I want to buy a replacement prop but the choices are so many.

I use the boat spring and fall primarily for fishing, and summer primarily for sking, tubing etc. The manual says my W.O.T.rpm should be 5000 rpm. With the old prop I would only get about 4300 rpm. I have no idea what my old prop was.

My question..... should I have 2 props, one for fishing, and one for summer fun? Or is there a happy medium that would suit both. And if you would be so kind to tell me which 1 or 2 props would be the best.

I have not had much luck with boat mechanics in my town, and my trust in them isn't the greatest. Soooo many of you seem to know what's best and I put a lot of faith in what you have to say.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
Tim

Re: propeller ?

Also with that info go to mercs website and under prop selector, fill in the onfo and see what they recommend.

Re: propeller ?

first, 4300RPM is not good...in fact, it "can" destroy your engine.
'79 115 we want to see 5500RPM+.
As a starting point, look for an OMC P/N 391199..this will be a 13-1/4X17, or a 176214, 14X17. Or we can go with a 390896, 13X19...any of these or the equivilant of will be good for testing.
The tach needs to be verified or replaced, then make a run with any one of these props and lets get some numbers to go by...find someone that has a prop to let you borrow maybe.

Thanks for the info Walleyehed. I will look for one of those props in town. Just curious.... how do I verify my tach?

Re: propeller ?

Have a boat repair shop check it, or if you can get your hands on a manual tach, you set the rubber nipple right smack in the middle of the flywheel nut and read the gauge...gotta watch your arms on this one!!!! If ya can't get it verified, see if you can borrow another one to install and test against yours.
