up for grabs is an 11 x 14 (or so the guy thinks) prop for a '60 40 horse Johnny/Rude -

and of course I have two questions

1 - isnt a 9.75 x 11 what is usually put on the smaller outboards, making this prop a bit too big

2 - since it is going on an aluminum boat with another motor, shouldnt it be a little big anyway to keep it from over revving? (will be on the fiberglass for a while, but only til the end of the season)

thanks

(note I kept it short and to the point!)

Ray,
My 1960 40 hp had a 10 1/2 X 12 on it. And my 1958 35 Hp came with a 10 X 11 on it.

Ray - Others might be able to give you some advice but I suspect that you might get better results if you gave a tiny hint on the boat you are putting it on.

so little is right, if im not mistaken the lenght of the boat and the hp of the motor can give you a starting point for a prop. example is my evinrude 50 now has a 17p 14ft bowrider but if you were to put that motor on a 17ft boat you would need around a 13p maybe a 15p. but your main objective is to reach 5200-5500rpm wot.

Re: Propellor too big?

mea culpea ... ive talked about that danged 18 Starcraft runabout so many times, I figgered yall were tired of hearing about it, and I really am not sure how to answer ... the boat is light, even with its new floor in and a hunk of carpet, its not going to be much heavier, but being a big guy with buddies, (boat loading will usually run nearly 1000 pounds in crew and gear not counting the Go Go Gear, gas and engines and a few batteries) I dont know if that counts as lightwieght

if anyone has a decent prop to fit a 66 Johnson 40, let me know, especially within a hundred miles of philly, Im a parts buyin junkie, lol
