Proper battery for Merc 3.0

I have been looking for a new battery for this season. I was wondering is there a place to look up the proper battery for my boat?

I am not sure if the previous owner had the correct one in it or not.

What should i be looking for in a battery? Cranking amps, ect..

I don't think it matters much, just buy a big marine starting battery. Just get one from walmart. The more cranking amps the better.

The only thing the manual gives you is the MINIMUM battery requirements, which for your 3.0L is 375 cca / 475 mca / 90 Ah
cca = Cold Cranking Amps
mca = Marine Cranking Amps
Ah = Amp hours

So from what I understand, I would be ok, and prob. better off with a battery that say has 100 ah and 875 ca, without hurting anything.

Yea, there is no such thing as too powerful of a battery. It will just give the engine what the engine needs to start, and hold the other juice for later.

For what it is worth, it is also never a bad idea to have two batteries. That way you have one to help you get home if the other dies while on the water.

Also, if you do anything besides using the battery to start your engine - it might be a good idea to have one battery be a deep cycle and one to be a starting battery. Add a battery switch and it makes it that much easier. Good luck!
