Proper Fit for boat

Hi All,
I'm looking at a Starcraft 18' Chieftain, 85 HP 2 strock outboard. This is a deep vee cuddy with a total boat+engine weight of around 1,300 pounds. It's a roller trailer. The trailer support ends around a foot from the transom of the boat. So that last foot is unsupported. My strong preference is for the boat to be supported directly under the stern.

I'm wondering if this trailer deficiency is a major red flag for possible deformation of the hull. How does one check to make sure the hull is not distorted from lack of transom support.

Thanks!

Hi, blubing.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I am with you in wanting support directly under the transom. I would mount a keel roller on the aft crossmember and position the boat accordingly.

This may require you to move the winch stand and/or the axle cradle to get proper balance (10% of the rig weight on the tongue).
