I recently purchased new plugs for my 15 hp 2 stroke (88). I got the NGK equivalent of the champions i had installed. The question i have is does it matter if i am running at one higher element of heat rated plug? For some reason i cannot get the NGK plug that NGK recommends when you go here http://www.ngk.com/default.asp and the champion equivalent using the crossover conversion charts is one heat rating higher. So does it matter that i run these new plugs at a higher heat rating? Also the gap...it is specified to be 0.060 for theses plugs on my motor. This seems to be alot but ive read three different places and also local shop say thats what it is. But my know it all mechanic friend whom i asked to borrow his gap tool gapped them by eye and said 0.060 is way too big even for a caddy...so he put them at 0.040 by eye...lol yea exactly..so im wondering what are the ill effects of a smaller than recommeded gap and should i be putting it back to 0.06 (ser# 0B339198)
