I have an unopened quart of Evinrude Johnson HPF Synthetic Gearcase Lube (778755) left over from a 50 hp 4-stoke Johnson I sold on my old pontoon.
Is this an appropriate lube for my 1967 Johnson 33 hp? Hate to waste it!
Thanks.

I'll start off by saying I am not familiar with that oil. Too new for me. That said, from what I read on it, I would not hesitate to use it in your 33hp. It probably is better than it needs to be. Your old 33 was not fussy on oil, just keep it clean and water out.

Thank you , F_R. Certainly not the most challenging post to which you responded today, but very helpful to me. I am wrapping up the lower gear case rebuild with new seal kit, and didn't want to do something silly by using inappropriate lubrication.

That brp,s premium lube.If its good enough for my etec its certainly kosher for your 33 .I had a 1970 33 erude and I would not of hesitated about using that gear-oil.

Not trying to start a war. Some gear oils and some bearing/bushing materials are not compatible and using them will cause damage. Correct oil later will not reverse the damage.

Uh, It was merely a joke. In other words, not to be taken seriously. I was only making a joke that any type oil is way better then no oil.

Sorry! I just didn't see that. But someone would rationalize using olive oil.
