proper jack plate usage

i have a '18 flats boat with a 150 HP outboard. What is the proper usage for a jack plate. my other boat i had a tilt/trim and i would always trim down to take off. with this jack plate can i leave it in the same position all the time? if i am in shallow water can i run and take off the same way? i put it all the way down to take off and then trimmed up but it seems that all i need to do is just give it some go and she's fine. the bow doesn't come up like my aluminum one did.

if you boat performs like that, fine do it. every setup is a little different.
