proper rise for outboard bracket

I have been told 2 different numbers for the rise when using an outboard bracket. I have been told 1" and 1.5" for every 12" of setback withch is right I am ready to mount and am torn as what to do 25" shaft with 30" setback. thanks

It really varies boat hull type to speed and particular outboard and prop. Good place to start is 1" above bottom on all applications and go up from there after each test run.

crab bait I was thinking along your line (split the diff), I just don't want the motor to run hot and don't expect more than 25-30 Knots <br /><br />thanks all

I have a 30 inch bracket on our 23' SportCraft using a Suzuki DT-225 engine. You have a lot of latitude in adjusting engine height once the bracket is on there but as mine stands right now it is mounted such that the cavitation plate is 5.5" above the very bottom of the keel-line of the boat. I am running my engine at the next to the highest bolt hole so its clear that my bracket could have been mounted higher than it is so that I would be using one of the middle bolt holes to mount the engine on the bracket. That would have given me more latitude in adjusting engine height depending on which prop I was using. By the way, I moved my enigne up almost an inch when I went to a 4-blade.<br /><br />Thom
