Re: Proper Tow Vehicle

Just my thought But I tow a 35ft travel trailer with a 91 chevy 1500 just fine no stopping problems Pulled a 22ft boat with a 305 i/o with a 1996 Chevy blazer Mid size blazer had no problems I can not tell the size of boat you are trying to tow so it might be what you are use to pulling

It's not determined by "no stopping problems" it is determined by weight and the tow rigs ratings, period.

And IF you had stopping problems you'd probably not be here right now.

Having the proper vehicle to safely tow a large trailer is not guesswork. It is either capable of the load or not. Capability is defined by the mfg's tow ratings.

true that!

also one MAJOR thing people don't think about:

Insurance!!!! if you are towing over your weight limit and get into an accident your insurance wont cover you. think a new truck is expensive? try medical bills for the family of four that your combo maimed, not to mention other pain/suffering loss. Or even your own family? What would you do if your daughter/wife/son was injured! in the day and age of lawsuits, it is really easy to lose everything you have including your house because you did something like tow a 10k boat with a jeep. is it worth it?? totally not!

if you really want this big boat, buy a cheap truck. even a new 3500 or 350 is much less than 2 mil settled in payments for the rest of your life!

Re: Proper Tow Vehicle

I towed the boat to where its sitting with the jeep. The jeep had plenty of power to pull it but it was also just flat roads. I agree the trailer is a bit small. Still looking for a larger truck. I know that i can not leagally pull the boat on the public road with the jeep. Just was curious if anyone had attempted to retrieve a boat that size with a tow vehicle the size of my jeep.

Re: Proper Tow Vehicle

I completly agree with 199q with the insurance. The main reason for this post is due to the boat launch being at the end of a dead end private street where my home is located. Would never have attempted to pull this boat any distance to the lake for the weekend or any thing of that nature with the jeep. Also the location where I picked the boat up at was a marina about a half mile from where the boat sits now, so no great distances were traveled.

well in order to attach that boat to your little car you have to have VERY LITTLE tongue weight... normally it would have 1000-2000 lbs depending on weight of the boat... that would crush the jeep.... SOOO if you chose to limp it down the road to a ramp like that which I wouldn't.... I think there is a VERY real chance that the boat will pull you down the ramp and maybe at a high speed

One more thing, check the trailer ratings too. For some reason, I think the trailer is not rated for that boat either. Just be careful and DONT be in a hurry to launch until you straighten things out with tow vehicle, trailer, boat systems (tune-up, oil change), safety equipment etc... check it all out. You don't wanna have issues while towing, launching or on maiden voyage.

Presume you towed it with the back lift gate up (as in photo) as a further safety measure? Sorry, couldn't resist. Unbelievable.

Re: Proper Tow Vehicle

Just purchased boat, not sure if jeep will it pull it up the ramp? Any thoughts

Bottom line is that Jeep isn't vehicle enough for that boat. doesn't matter if you have to go a foot or a hundred miles, that will put you and others at risk.
