Proper way to set points.

I'm back, to update i have given up on steering cable for now, being a redneck i rigged a homemade steering tiller to the engine and am steering it that way since I troll more than I actually run the motor.
Now to the next problem, I was told to put new points and condenser but I want to be sure im don't it correctly, any guidance would be appreciated.

Who said it needs new parts?----Does spark jump a gap of 5/16" on both leads ?
