Proping around an incorrect gear ratio

first, take a sharpie and draw a line across the prop hup and nut. if the line moves its your prop hup

second, pull the drive, drop the lower and look at the vertical drive shaft. may as well do an impeller. while at it pull the top cover and look at the gears

third, use a flashlight and look at the coupler. you will either see missing splines or a ring around where the spline sleeve used to be bonded to the rubber.

Update: I got a new prop, the same pitch I had before (14.25, 23P), the one I had was pretty dinged up so I need one anyway.
Still there is no difference. I took the boat to a local marine mechanic shop. I want to thank everyone for they're input and suggestions. I just don't want to bite off more than I can chew again. Might go with a Bravo outdrive.
