Re: Proposed Social Security deal with Mexico

Hmmm.

Over the 50-some years that I paid into SS, the tax increased about 1500% (yes, that is 15 times the original tax).

Eligibility for SS pension requires that the candidate paid into the system for a minimum period, and benefits are tied to how much they paid in.

I don't see that it matters whether they were U.S. citizens, Mexican, Canadian or Martian. If they paid into the system for the minimum time and the minimum amounts they should be eligible to collect benefits.

I do think that a method should be devised to disqualify illegal aliens from obtaining SS numbers or being taxed for a system they cannot benefit from.

The only issue I have, is that they intentially used an illegal method to be working in the US. Therefore I feel they have voided their minimum time contributing into the program. Had they went about the legal channels, I would not have a problem with it.

IF They came into this country legally.

IF They did not forge documents.

IF They put into the system the required amount of time.

I would have no problem. BUT they have commited 2 crimes here.

1. They have entered the country illegally. Despite certain states efforts that is still against the law and subjects them to deportation.

2. They have FORGED federal documents. If they are doing SS cards they are probably doing DL's and Birth Certificates. So Now we are rewarding them for commiting criminal acts.

AND We all know that the Social Security System pays more than it takes in. I am looking at not being able to receive full benefits untill I turn 72. But I have paid in since I was 15. Thank God for my Pension. This is absolutly NUTs. What kind of message are we sending.

Seems a similare sentiment here - if they paid in and were here legally and met the requirements, then they should get their $ back. If they are illegal - thank-you for the donation, now get back to where you belong!

I guess what really burns me is how some of the illegals do it. I had a friend (he is still alive, but because of what he is doing I cannot and would not call him a friend). that came to this country on a visitor's visa. That was about 8 years ago - he is still here in the DC area somewhere. He has a job and has assumed his landlord's SS. So, his landlord has him paying in the max tax contribution possible and is getting the benefit of this contribution, plus the SS when he retires. Fraud on both ends! Wish they would get caught!

I would but I don't know the landlord's name, don't know where they are living, don't know the name that Adusie is now using, can't give any authority figures enough to go on to catch them. If I get it, I will be turning them in!

Kenny, that is not far from being true. See, I helped to bring him over here - so I definitely feel responsible. He told me he was going to DC to visit his brother - never came back for his plane ticket. Saw him once since then, that is how I got the info that I have. His wife and 3 children are still overseas (he has never seen his younest daughter). They never hear from him any more. Tried to get the info from them without them knowing what I was doing. For his sake, he better hope I don't see him again ...

jgregory - you take the back this time! I ain't doing that again! Especially not in the DC area!
