When I bought my 22'2" aquasport CC this year, the previous owner gave me an extra prop for the '81 merc 200 bmax.

The prop that was on the boat was a 21p, and it would push my boat WOT at about 4700rpm, 30.5 KTs...With a cruise at about 3500, 24kts However, at most mid RPMs, the torque steer forced me to wrestle with the steering wheel.

This weekend I tried the other prop - a 17p... It ran WOT 34.3 KTs at 5500RPM (loud as hell no less...nothing quite like these old mercs) and cruised at 4000rpm / 27kts. My torque steer issues were now non-existant throughout the powerband.

My question is - the boat I am pushing is 1900lbs dry, approx 2800 fully loaded with fuel and motor. The boat is very long with a lot of surface area. Should I be happy with my 34kt (nearly 40mph) or should I tinker and somehow borrow a 19p to put in there...
